We must forever fight to improve and think about ways to protect life on mother earth. Enemies of this fight are air polluting countries.

What’s Happening to Mother Earth?
In 2020, here in Oregon, we experienced the worst natural disaster in recorded history when 1.07 million acres of forest were lost to fires. The cost to fight the fires was also high — $354 million. But, to make it even worse, 4,097 homes burned to the ground and lives were lost. Wildfires are traumatic, no matter where they take place.
In 2012, over one million acres of grassland burned in Eastern Oregon which is very sparsely populated so the effect was not felt as much. But this fire in 2020 burned around, near, and through communities. It was shocking, destructive, and felt deeply by Oregonians in the Willamette Valley and the mountains to the east.
On Labor Day 2020, fires roared into towns or ignited nearby, whipped up on high winds and bone-dry fuels that left little time for defense. For myself, the fire came within 10 miles of Salem, and our skies were dark orange. The fire spread so quickly through the Santiam Pass that all that could be done was to save lives. The actual fire-fighting had to be put on hold for about 24 hours. Then the fire moved north and came within three miles of my cousin’s home in Oregon City.
We Must Heed the Warnings!
The point is, these are warning signs that every human on earth must take seriously. This is not a new subject! But it is proving difficult to get people onboard because of greed and selfish desires.
Our former president sliced and diced the good environmental standards that were in place through years of hard work and efforts by citizens and politicians who care about Mother Earth.
I’ve read online that President Biden and Vice President Harris are turning many of those back around and reinstating them. This is good news but there is still much to be done to save Mother Earth from the destruction of our human “industrial age” that has wreaked so much havoc on our beautiful blue planet. Let’s all consciously send blessings to our new administration in their efforts to right the wrongs and continue to care about Mother Earth. She’s the only home we have. So, it’s up to each one of us to do our part in saving Mother Earth.
